Employer Sponsorship Opportunities in Brisbane

Industries in Brisbane hiring overseas skilled workers

Brisbane employers regularly sponsor workers in sectors such as construction, healthcare, engineering, IT, and hospitality, where skill shortages exist, with construction demand often tied to the city's major infrastructure projects.

Employer sponsorship requirements for Australian businesses

Employers must meet strict sponsorship obligations, including showing a genuine need for the role, complying with workplace laws, and meeting the applicable salary requirements.

Pathways from temporary sponsored visas to permanent residency

Many employer-sponsored visas offer a transition to permanent residency, particularly through the Subclass 186 visa or certain Subclass 482 streams.

Skilled professionals working and living in Brisbane

Employer sponsorship lets skilled workers live and work in Brisbane while contributing to key industries and, in many cases, progressing toward permanent residency over time.

Employer Sponsorship for Businesses in Brisbane

Requirements for Brisbane employers to sponsor overseas workers

Employers need to show their business is operating lawfully, is financially viable, and has a genuine need for an overseas worker in the nominated role.

Becoming a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS)

Before sponsoring anyone, most businesses need to be approved as a Standard Business Sponsor by the Department of Home Affairs.

Employer obligations when sponsoring overseas workers

Sponsors must meet ongoing obligations, including proper employment conditions, accurate record keeping, compliance with the Fair Work Act, and making sure visa holders are only employed in the approved role.

Hiring international skilled workers in Queensland

Queensland employers can access overseas talent where local recruitment hasn't met workforce demand, subject to sponsorship approval.

Employer-Sponsored Visa Eligibility Requirements

Nomination by an approved Australian employer

Applicants need to be nominated by an employer approved by the Department of Home Affairs to sponsor overseas workers.

Occupation listed on the relevant skilled occupation list

The nominated role generally needs to appear on the skilled occupation list relevant to the visa subclass, such as the Core Skills Occupation List for Subclass 482's Core Skills stream.

Skills, qualifications, and work experience requirements

Applicants need to show they have the required skills, qualifications, and relevant work experience for the nominated occupation.

英语语言要求

Most employer-sponsored visas require applicants to meet a minimum English standard through approved testing.

Health and character requirements

Applicants must meet Australia's health and character requirements, including medical checks and police clearances where these apply.

Documents Required for an Employer-Sponsored Visa Application

Passport and identification documents

Valid identity documents are needed to confirm nationality and personal details.

Employer nomination documentation

This includes sponsorship approval, nomination forms, and supporting evidence from the employer, including evidence of labour market testing where this applies to the nominated occupation.

Employment contracts and job offer letters

A formal contract or offer setting out salary, role, and employment conditions is required, and the offered salary needs to meet both the relevant income threshold and the market salary rate for the role.

Skills assessment and qualification documents

Applicants must provide evidence of qualifications, licences, and skills assessments where these apply.

英语测试结果

Approved English test results must be provided to show the required language proficiency.

Employer-Sponsored Visa Application Process

1

Consultation and eligibility assessment

We assess both the employer's and the applicant's eligibility to work out the right visa pathway and requirements.

2

Employer sponsorship and nomination process

The employer applies for Standard Business Sponsorship approval, then nominates the position in line with the Department's requirements, including meeting the relevant income threshold and market salary rate.

3

Lodging the visa application with the Department

Once sponsorship and nomination are approved, the visa application is lodged with the Department of Home Affairs through ImmiAccount, together with supporting documents.

4

Communication with the Department and ongoing legal support

We help throughout the assessment process, including responding to requests for further information and keeping the sponsorship compliant until a decision is made.

Benefits of Using a Brisbane Employer-Sponsored Visa Lawyer

Using a lawyer helps make sure both the employer and the employee meet strict sponsorship and visa requirements. We help prepare accurate applications, reduce compliance risk, and work through complex eligibility issues. Legal support also improves the quality of what's submitted, helps avoid common refusal reasons, and keeps sponsorship, nomination, and visa stages moving in the right order.
