Eligibility for Queensland State Nomination
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) for Queensland
Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491) Pathways
Occupations in Demand in Queensland
Brisbane continues to attract skilled professionals across a range of industries, with occupations tied to infrastructure, healthcare, and technology often in strong demand.
State nomination gives applicants who may not meet the threshold for independent migration an additional route forward. For eligible skilled migrants, it offers a direct and comparatively reliable pathway to permanent residency, and nomination can add valuable points toward the overall points test.
Brisbane offers a growing economy, a broad range of employment opportunities, and a relaxed, subtropical lifestyle. It's an increasingly popular destination for skilled migrants looking for long-term career growth and stability.
Many skilled migrants move from a temporary visa to permanent residency through a structured pathway. This generally depends on ongoing employment, continued residency, and compliance with visa conditions along the way.

Meeting the points test for skilled migration
Occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List
Positive skills assessment from the relevant authority
English language proficiency requirements
Health and character requirements
Passport and identity documents
Applicants must provide valid identification documents to confirm identity and citizenship.
Skills assessment documents
Evidence of a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for the nominated occupation is required.
Employment and work experience evidence
Documentation supporting your employment history, including references and contracts, is essential. Where you're claiming skilled employment, meaning work classified at ANZSCO skill level 1, 2, or 3, you'll need to provide evidence of this. When working out your annual earnings for the skilled visa nomination process in Brisbane, use your total compensation, excluding superannuation and before income tax.
英语测试结果
Recognised English test results, such as IELTS or PTE, must be provided where required.
Educational qualifications and transcripts
Academic records are needed to demonstrate your qualifications and support your skills assessment.
The process usually starts with a detailed assessment of your eligibility, covering points, occupation, and visa options.
Applicants need a positive skills assessment before submitting an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect, which is the Department's online system for skilled visa EOIs.
If invited to apply, applicants proceed to lodge a full visa application through ImmiAccount, supported by comprehensive documentation.
Throughout the process, communication with the Department matters, and ongoing legal support can help address any requests or issues that come up.
A skilled migration lawyer helps make sure your application is prepared in line with current migration law and policy. Legal guidance can identify potential risks early, strengthen your supporting evidence, and present your case clearly to decision-makers. Professional assistance can also reduce delays by keeping the application decision-ready and compliant with Departmental requirements. Our Brisbane migration lawyers provide tailored advice and strategic support throughout your skilled migration journey. Contact Australian Migration Lawyers to discuss your circumstances.
Government visa application fees
Effective from 1 July 2026, the primary applicant charge is AUD 6,135 for the Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189) and the Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190), and AUD 6,140 for the Skilled Work Regional visa (Subclass 491). These charges are reviewed annually and may change again from 1 July each year, so applicants should confirm the exact figure that applies at the time they lodge.
Skills assessment and testing costs
Fees can apply for obtaining a skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your occupation.
English language testing fees
Applicants may need to cover the cost of a recognised English language test, such as IELTS or PTE, where required.
Legal and professional service fees
Professional fees depend on the complexity of your case and the level of legal assistance required.
Factors affecting skilled visa processing times
Processing times can vary depending on how complete the application is, demand for the specific occupation, and current Departmental priorities.
Typical timelines for Subclass 189, 190 and 491 visas
While indicative processing times are published by the Department, actual timelines can differ depending on individual circumstances and application volumes.
Insufficient points to meet migration requirements
Applications can be refused where the applicant no longer meets the points threshold at the time of invitation.
Incorrect or incomplete documentation
Failing to provide accurate, complete documentation can lead to refusal.
Negative skills assessment outcome
An unfavourable skills assessment can affect eligibility for the visa. Where a skills assessment is refused, some assessing authorities offer an internal review process, and it's worth seeking advice quickly given that review windows are often short.
未达到英语语言要求
Applicants must meet the required English language standard to qualify.

The required points threshold varies depending on the visa subclass and the specific invitation round. Applicants need to meet the minimum threshold and remain competitive within the wider pool of candidates.
Processing times vary depending on the visa type, application complexity, and Departmental priorities.
In many cases, applicants can apply while already in Australia, provided they meet the relevant visa conditions and eligibility requirements.
Eligible occupations are set out on the relevant Skilled Occupation List, which is updated periodically to reflect labour market needs. For Queensland state nomination specifically, the occupation also needs to appear on Queensland's own Skilled Occupation List (QSOL), which isn't identical to the national lists.
Depending on your circumstances, you may have options to seek review of the decision or explore an alternative visa pathway. Legal advice is recommended to assess your position.
