The partner visa 309/100 lets the de facto partner or spouse of an Australian citizen or permanent resident move to Australia permanently. It's granted in two stages: the subclass 309 (temporary) visa first, then the subclass 100 (permanent) visa. The process is detailed but designed to let genuine couples build their life together in Australia.
The first stage is the partner visa subclass 309. To be eligible, you must provide substantial evidence of a genuine de facto relationship or marriage. Joint financial records, shared responsibilities, and cohabitation details are all assessed. You'll also need to meet health and character requirements, including police checks from your home country and any other country you've lived in.
The second stage is the subclass 100 partner visa. After two years on the partner visa 309, you become eligible to apply for the subclass 100, which grants permanent residency.
