Australian citizenship is the legal status that grants individuals full rights and responsibilities as members of Australia. It allows you to live in Australia permanently without visa conditions, vote in federal and state elections, apply for an Australian passport, and access certain government benefits. Citizenship also represents a formal commitment to Australian laws, values, and community participation.

We provide tailored advice to assess whether you meet the legal requirements for Australian citizenship, including permanent residency status, residency compliance, and travel history. This helps ensure you are eligible before submitting your application and reduces the risk of refusal due to technical or eligibility issues.
We assist with preparing and carefully reviewing citizenship applications to ensure all information is accurate, complete, and consistent with Department of Home Affairs records. This includes checking identity documents, residency calculations, and supporting evidence before lodgement to minimise delays or complications.
We help applicants dealing with more complex circumstances such as gaps in residency, extended overseas travel, visa changes, or uncertainty around lawful residence periods. We assess how these issues affect eligibility and provide guidance on how to properly address them in your application.
If your citizenship application is refused, we review the decision in detail and advise on your options. This may include addressing refusal reasons, preparing a stronger reapplication, or advising on any available review pathways depending on your circumstances.

Passport and identification documents
You must provide valid identity documents such as passports, birth certificates, and photo identification to confirm your identity and background.
Evidence of permanent residency
This includes your permanent visa grant notice and official records confirming your permanent residency status in Australia.
Residency and travel history
A complete travel history is required to verify your compliance with residency requirements, including time spent outside Australia.
Character and supporting documents
Depending on your circumstances, you may need police checks, court records, or statutory declarations addressing character or background matters.
We assess your eligibility and identify any risks or issues before you proceed with your application.
We assist in preparing and reviewing your application to ensure all information and supporting documents are complete and accurate.
We ensure your application is properly submitted with all required documentation to avoid delays or requests for further information.
If required, you will complete a citizenship test and may attend an interview with the Department. We help you understand the process and prepare effectively.
Once approved, you attend a citizenship ceremony where you make the Australian Citizenship Pledge and officially become an Australian citizen.
The test assesses your understanding of Australian values, history, government, and civic responsibilities. It is generally computer-based with multiple-choice questions.
We guide you on study materials and key topics covered in the test to help you prepare with confidence and improve your chances of passing on the first attempt.
After passing the test, your application proceeds to final processing before you are invited to attend your citizenship ceremony.
Australian citizenship provides permanent legal status in Australia without visa conditions. It allows you to vote, apply for an Australian passport, access government services, and fully participate in civic life. Citizenship also provides long-term security, as you cannot lose your right to remain in Australia due to visa cancellation or expiry.
Government citizenship application fees
The standard citizenship by conferral fee (Form 1300T) is $595 for adults, with a concession rate of $85 for eligible applicants. Citizenship by descent (Form 118) costs $380, resuming citizenship (Form 132) costs $255, and evidence of citizenship (Form 119) costs $290. These fees are set by the Department of Home Affairs and reviewed annually.
Legal and professional service fees
Legal costs depend on the complexity of your application and whether there are issues such as residency concerns or prior visa complications.
Additional document preparation costs
These may include police certificates, document translations, identity verification, and travel history records.
Typical processing times for citizenship applications
Processing times vary depending on case complexity, but generally range from several months to over a year.
Factors affecting processing delays
Delays may occur due to incomplete applications, additional document requests, identity verification checks, or character assessments.
Failure to meet residency requirements
Applications may be refused if the applicant does not meet required residency periods or lawful presence requirements.
Character concerns or legal issues
Serious or unresolved character issues, including criminal history, may result in refusal under citizenship law.
Incorrect or incomplete documentation
Missing or inconsistent documents can lead to delays or refusal of your application.
Citizenship test issues
Failure to pass the citizenship test or demonstrate required knowledge of Australia may affect approval.
We provide clear, structured guidance throughout the citizenship process, from eligibility assessment through to final approval. Our approach focuses on accuracy, compliance, and careful preparation to minimise delays and reduce the risk of refusal. We assist both simple and complex applications with tailored legal support based on your circumstances.
