Types of Parent Visas Available in Perth

Parent Visa Pathways for Families Living in Perth

Bringing parents to live permanently in Australia

Parent visa pathways let parents be sponsored for permanent migration by a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, subject to strict eligibility requirements. An eligible child generally needs to have resided in Australia for at least two years before sponsoring a parent.

Temporary parent visa options while waiting for permanent visas

Certain contributory visa arrangements, known as parent temporary visas, allow parents to remain in Australia while their permanent visa application is assessed. These visas provide a transition pathway from temporary to permanent status during the waiting period. A Subclass 870 temporary parent visa operates separately from this contributory temporary pathway, allowing eligible parents a temporary stay of up to five years under its own sponsorship and charge structure.

Sponsoring parents while living in Perth

An eligible sponsor living in Perth, who has resided in Australia for at least two years, may support a parent's migration application, provided sponsorship and financial requirements are met. An approved sponsor can support a maximum of two parents at any one time.

澳大利亚移民律师团队

Government parent visa application fees

Application fees differ depending on whether the visa is contributory or non-contributory and are set by the Department of Home Affairs. For the Subclass 143 (Contributory Parent) and Subclass 864 (Contributory Aged Parent), the base application charge for the primary applicant is $6,300, with an additional applicant charge of $2,125 (Subclass 143) or $3,145 (Subclass 864) for those aged 18 or over, and $1,065 or $1,580 respectively for those under 18. The parent visa second instalment for most applicants under either pathway is $43,600, payable before the visa is granted. Families who use the temporary Subclass 173 or Subclass 884 stepping-stone pathway pay a lower base charge of $4,245 (Subclass 173) or $6,300 (Subclass 884), with a reduced second instalment of $29,130, before a further payment applies at conversion to the permanent Subclass 143 or 864 visa. For the non-contributory Subclass 103, the base charge is $6,600, with an additional applicant charge of $3,300 (18 or over) or $1,655 (under 18), and a second instalment of $2,065 per person included in the application.

Assurance of Support financial obligations

Sponsors may be required to provide an Assurance of Support bond, with amounts and durations differing between contributory and non-contributory pathways under current settings.

Legal and professional service fees

Legal fees vary depending on the complexity of the application and the level of assistance required.

Health checks and documentation costs

Applicants may incur costs for medical examinations, a parent visa health assessment, police checks, and other supporting documentation.

Parent Visa Processing Times in Perth

Factors affecting parent visa processing

Processing times vary significantly depending on visa type, application volume, and individual circumstances.

Typical waiting periods for contributory and non-contributory visas

DHA parent visa queue data for 2025, along with current figures, show contributory visas generally have shorter processing times than non-contributory visas, where waiting periods can extend well beyond a decade. Contributory pathways currently sit at approximately 15 years, while non-contributory pathways can extend to roughly 33 years, and these timeframes are subject to change as government processing priorities shift.
