Apply for an Employer-Sponsored Visa in Sydney with Experienced Migration Lawyers
Employer sponsorship gives Australian businesses a way to bring in skilled overseas workers when the local talent pool falls short. Our Sydney employer-sponsored visa lawyers advise both sides of that equation, employers and applicants alike, helping make sure sponsorship, nomination, and visa applications hold up against the Department of Home Affairs' strict requirements. That includes putting together compliant applications, working through eligibility issues, and cutting down the risk of refusal or delay.

Industries in Sydney hiring overseas skilled workers
Employer sponsorship requirements for Australian businesses
Pathways from temporary sponsored visas to permanent residency
Skilled professionals working and living in Sydney
Employers need to show their business is legally operating, financially sound, and has a genuine need for overseas workers in the roles being nominated.
Before sponsoring anyone, most businesses first need approval from the Department of Home Affairs as a Standard Business Sponsor.
Sponsors need to keep meeting ongoing obligations, including proper employment conditions, record keeping, and making sure visa holders only work in roles that have been approved.
NSW employers can tap into global talent where local recruitment hasn't met workforce demand, subject to sponsorship approval going through.

Valid ID documents are needed to confirm nationality and personal details.
Employer nomination documentation
This covers sponsorship approval, nomination forms, and supporting evidence supplied by the employer.
Employment contracts and job offer letters

英语测试结果
Approved English test results need to be provided to show the required level of proficiency.
We look at both the employer's and the applicant's eligibility to work out the right visa pathway and requirements.
The employer applies for sponsorship approval and nominates the position in line with what the Department requires.
Once sponsorship and nomination are approved, the visa application goes in with the supporting documents.
We stay involved through the assessment, including responding to requests for more information and keeping things compliant right through to a decision.
Having a lawyer involved helps make sure both employer and employee are meeting the strict sponsorship and visa requirements that apply. We help put together accurate applications, cut down compliance risk, and work through complex eligibility issues as they come up. Legal input also lifts the quality of submissions, helps steer clear of common refusal reasons, and keeps the sponsorship, nomination, and visa stages running properly.
Government visa application fees
Government charges depend on the visa subclass and the number of applicants included. As at 1 July 2026, the primary applicant charge is $4,015 for Subclass 482, and $6,140 for both Subclass 186 and Subclass 494.
Employer sponsorship and nomination costs
Employers can face costs tied to sponsorship approval and nomination, including a $330 nomination fee for Subclass 482, no nomination fee for Subclass 494, and a $540 nomination fee for Subclass 186 (where the position isn't in a regional area), plus the Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy, which runs to $1,200 or $1,800 per year depending on whether the business's annual turnover is below or above $10 million.
Skills assessment and testing fees
Applicants may need to pay for skills assessments, licensing checks, or qualification verification.
Legal and professional service fees
Legal fees depend on how complex the matter is, including setting up employer sponsorship and supporting the visa application itself.
Factors affecting employer visa processing times
Processing time depends on sponsorship status, the occupation involved, how complete the documentation is, and the Department's current workload.
Typical timelines for Subclass 482, 186, and 494 visas
Processing can range from several weeks to several months, depending on the visa subclass and how complex the case is.
Employer not meeting sponsorship requirements
An application can be refused if the employer doesn't meet its legal sponsorship obligations or fails a compliance check.
Incorrect or incomplete documentation
Missing or inconsistent documentation can delay the application or lead to refusal.
Failure to meet occupation or skill requirements
Applicants need to clearly meet the skills and experience the nominated occupation calls for.
English language or qualification issues
Not meeting the minimum English standard, or not providing valid qualifications, can result in refusal.
