Planning to apply for ACT nomination? Start by checking whether your occupation is on the approved list. This tool helps you confirm your occupation's eligibility before you invest time in a full Canberra Matrix application.

See If I Qualify

ACT Occupation List

Estimate your score for ACT Government skilled nomination (subclass 190 or 491). This is a self-assessment tool only — it does not submit an Expression of Interest and is not a guarantee of an invitation. Always confirm your position against current invitation rounds and criteria at act.gov.au/migration before relying on this result.

Points are only valid if you meet the category's minimum criteria on the date you submit or update your submission, and any points claimed must be evidenced in your supporting documents. Invitation thresholds change each round — a higher score improves your relative ranking but there's no fixed pass mark.

FAQ

Does this checker guarantee I will receive ACT nomination?

No. This checker confirms whether your occupation currently appears on the ACT Nominated Migration Program Occupation List, based on the most recent information available. It does not guarantee nomination, an invitation, or a visa outcome, all of which depend on the broader Canberra Matrix assessment and ACT Government decision-making. Speak with one of our migration lawyers to confirm your occupation's status and plan your ACT nomination strategy.

I checked my occupation previously. Should I check again before applying?

Yes. Since the list is reviewed periodically, an occupation's status can change between cycles. Confirm your occupation's current status close to the time of application, rather than relying on an earlier check.

Are some occupations prioritized over others?

Yes. Occupations that support the ACT's critical sectors, including care, education, construction, renewables, experience, and advanced technology, may be prioritized in the Canberra Matrix assessment process. This does not exclude other listed occupations from eligibility, but it can affect how competitive a submission is.

How often does the list change?

The ACT Government reviews and updates the list periodically in line with current and anticipated workforce needs. Because an occupation's eligibility can change between review cycles, it should be checked close to the time you intend to submit your Canberra Matrix or ACT nomination application, rather than relied on from an earlier check.

If my occupation is on the list, does that guarantee ACT nomination?

No. Being listed means your occupation is eligible to be considered, not that nomination is guaranteed. The ACT Government can apply demand-based limits or sector priorities that affect whether nominations are currently open for a given occupation, so being listed should be treated as a starting requirement rather than an outcome.

Why does it matter whether my occupation is on this list?

Your nominated occupation must appear on this list before ACT nomination becomes available to you, and occupation-related points in the Canberra Matrix can only be claimed if your occupation is listed. If your occupation is not currently listed, it is worth reviewing your alternative pathways before proceeding with an application.

What is the ACT Occupation List?

The ACT Occupation List, formally known as the ACT Nominated Migration Program Occupation List and previously the ACT Critical Skills List, identifies the occupations the ACT Government currently recognizes for state nomination purposes. It is used to determine eligibility for ACT nomination of a Subclass 190 or Subclass 491 visa.
