Points clés à retenir
The PayPal Pay in 4 option is currently available within the ImmiAccount payment screen for visa application charges. The Department of Home Affairs has since confirmed that the option applies only to charges below $2,000. Applicants should verify availability before relying on this method and have an alternative payment option ready.
The Pay in 4 option is accessed through the standard ImmiAccount payment screen. At the payment stage, applicants will see “PayPal (including Pay in 4)” listed alongside debit and credit card, UnionPay, and BPAY. Selecting PayPal routes the transaction through PayPal’s platform, where the Pay in 4 option can be chosen subject to PayPal’s eligibility assessment.
The option is available only for visa application charges below $2,000. Charges at or above that threshold are not eligible. Applicants who do not currently hold a PayPal account will need to create one before they can use this method.

PayPal Pay in 4 is a buy now, pay later product offered by PayPal. It divides the total charge into four equal payments: the first is taken at checkout, and the remaining three are debited automatically every 14 days. The full amount is settled within approximately six weeks.
Before approving a transaction, PayPal conducts its own eligibility and credit assessment. Applicants must be Australian residents aged 18 or over and hold a PayPal account in good standing. The assessment may include an external credit check, which can appear on the applicant’s credit file.
PayPal charges no interest and no sign-up fee on Pay in 4 transactions. Missed instalments carry consequences including account restriction and credit bureau reporting. Applicants should read PayPal’s Pay in 4 terms before selecting this option at lodgement.
[aml_difference][/aml_difference]
Pay in 4 is available only where the visa application charge falls below $2,000. The following charges from 1 July 2026 fall within that threshold for the primary applicant.
Regardless of visa type, the visa application charge remains non-refundable once paid. The Department of Home Affairs states clearly inside ImmiAccount that the decision to pay is final and cannot be disputed, even if the applicant later changes their mind. A missed Pay in 4 instalment after lodgement does not pause or withdraw the application. Once payment is made, the charge has been accepted and the application is on foot.
The Department of Home Affairs makes the option available in ImmiAccount, but approval rests with PayPal. Not every applicant who sees Pay in 4 at the payment screen will be approved to use it. Have an alternative payment method ready before attempting to pay. If PayPal declines the transaction, the applicant will need to pay by another accepted method before lodgement can proceed.

A visa application involves legal and evidentiary requirements that determine how the Department of Home Affairs assesses the case. The quality of the evidence, the completeness of the forms, and how the application presents the applicant’s circumstances all affect the outcome.
If you are considering a visa application, Australian Migration Lawyers can assess your circumstances and advise on the right pathway before you lodge. Contact us to arrange a consultation with our team.
